The task of the municipal government is to prepare issues to be discussed in the council, solve and organize current issues of local life and perform other tasks assigned or delegated to it by the council. The municipal government on Vormsi is organized with the principle of ensuring representation from various walks of life. This approach aims to include diverse perspectives and promote effective decision-making for the community.
According to the bylaws of Vormsi municipality, the municipal government has five to nine members. The municipal government is formed by the mayor and the composition is approved by the council.
From May 26, 2026, the Vormsi municipality government will consist of Ebekai Härm, Karl Peetris, Kaido Valm and the municipality mayor Erki Savisaar.

The self-governing status of Vormsi municipality was confirmed on December 19, 1991. The corresponding certificate was issued by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Estonia, signed by the chairman Arnold Rüütel.
