Library

There are two known founding dates in the history of the Vormsi Library:
In 1919, a Swedish-language library was established here, followed by an Estonian-language library in 1924. Just like today, the library at that time was located under the same roof as the school. Everything in the collections could be borrowed – both books and manuscripts.

Today, the Vormsi Library collection comprises approximately 10,000 items.
The collection traditionally includes both books and periodicals. Additionally, there is a small collection of records and a video library. Most of the materials are in Estonian, with a smaller selection in Swedish and Russian. The library uses the URRAM system (www.lugeja.ee), which allows readers to access the services of many Estonian libraries online.

The loan period for library items is 30 calendar days.
Both books and periodicals are available for borrowing. Readers have access to open-shelf rooms for fiction and non-fiction, as well as a reading room/children’s area for exploring periodicals and children’s literature. The library also has one public internet workstation and is located within a wireless internet coverage area.

People with mobility impairments or temporary health issues can use home library services. Users of walking frames and wheelchairs can enter the library via the rear entrance of the school building using the ramp; to do so, the library can be notified in advance by phone or email.

People with visual impairments, or with another disability, disorder, or medical condition that makes it difficult to read printed text, can borrow materials in accessible formats from the Library for the Blind at the National Library of Estonia.

The library is located at Suur-Sõjamäe 44b, 11415 Tallinn and can be contacted by phone at +372 674 8212 or by email at laenutus@rara.ee. Registration as a library user is granted upon presentation of appropriate documentation confirming the disability or condition.

The library’s collection includes audiobooks and audio magazines, Braille books, e-books, e-newspapers and e-magazines, tactile books, and films with audio description.

Library services are available in person at the main library and at the Tondi lending point (Tondi 8a), as well as by post, telephone, and email. Audiobooks, e-books, and e-magazines can also be downloaded or accessed through streaming via the online library service (Veebiraamatukogu).
