There are two known founding dates in the history of the Vormsi Library:
In 1919, a Swedish-language library was established here, followed by an Estonian-language library in 1924. Just like today, the library at that time was located under the same roof as the school. Everything in the collections could be borrowed – both books and manuscripts.
Today, the Vormsi Library collection comprises approximately 10,000 items.
The collection traditionally includes both books and periodicals. Additionally, there is a small collection of records and a video library. Most of the materials are in Estonian, with a smaller selection in Swedish and Russian. The library uses the URRAM system (www.lugeja.ee), which allows readers to access the services of many Estonian libraries online.
The loan period for library items is 30 calendar days.
Both books and periodicals are available for borrowing. Readers have access to open-shelf rooms for fiction and non-fiction, as well as a reading room/children’s area for exploring periodicals and children’s literature. The library also has one public internet workstation and is located within a wireless internet coverage area.
